Add searchable "Character" field

Would appreciate the community's thoughts on this one.  Especially if this feature exists already and the problem is between my ears.

I've been trying to find a way to do this on Synology.  The results I've found all seem to focus around setting up separate search engines, separate databases, separate tagging, etc.  Since "Character" seems to be a metadata field associated with TVDB and TMDB entries, would it be simpler to expose this field in the local jellyfin db and search engine?
