Looking to find out if there's a way to theme the Android TV app in any way?  Really want the movie titles to appear under the posters (like most other media software).

If not available in the Android TV app, can the regular Android app be used on a TV?

My understanding is that the Android app is web-based,so it mimics css configs made for the web view side of things. The Android TV app does not follow that same concept, so it's not theme ready.
The Android app does not install natively to Android TV, but I've been told before that can be side loaded.

Android mobile app is a Web wrapper using the web client so css works on it. Whereas android TV app is fully native, in kotlin/java, so css is not supported.

It's worth mentioning that using regular Android apps on Android TV may not provide an ideal user experience since these apps are designed primarily for touchscreens and not optimized for TV interfaces.

You could take the source code from github and compile your own version of the Android TV Client.
Thats how i customized my Android TV Client.

Theming support would be interesting for the Jellyfin Android TV client and the Swiftfin tvOS client.

The Android TV app's customization options are relatively limited compared to other media software. Unfortunately, there was no built-in way to directly theme the Android TV app to display movie titles under the posters.

Regarding using the regular Android app on a TV, it is possible to use it if you have a TV with Android OS (Android TV). In such cases, you can install and use the regular Android app on the TV just like you would on a smartphone or tablet. However, keep in mind that the user interface might not be optimized for a TV screen, and navigation could be a bit cumbersome using a remote control.

Additionally, some apps on the regular Android app store may not be specifically designed for TV screens, which could lead to issues with functionality or user experience.

If you have specific preferences for customizing the app's appearance and layout, you may consider looking for alternative media software or exploring third-party Android TV launchers that might offer more customization options.
