I recently switched TVs and this new one does not have an optical audio output.  I ended up purchasing this and I have a Roku stick connected to it, with the HDMI out going to the TV and optical audio going to a Sabaj A4 amp.  Streaming services such as Netflix or Hulu have no issues with audio and certain shows streamed from Jellyfin are fine but other shows play only this horrible digital static audio (video is fine).  I was able to at least find a common thread which was files with Dolby Digital Plus audio played fine while Dolby Digital produced the static.

I realize my issue is likely that the extractor can't handle something about the codec so I'm not sure if there is a resolution there but I wanted to know if it's at least possible to always have Jellyfin transcode Dolby Digital audio to Dolby Digital Plus?

I might be a corner case with this device but I'm hoping someone might know something!

That's weird. Plus is an extension of Dolby Digital. Supporting Plus SHOULD mean that it supports the base Dolby Digital, right? For giggles, in whatever device you are using to run the Jellyfin player, go to the Settings > Playback > Audio Settings > Maximum Allowed Audio Channels. Set it to stereo. I'm wondering if your HDMI dongle thing isn't downmixing correctly for or something so let's do the downmixing in software. Maybe this is a bug in the dongle's firmware?

Unfortunately, the client requests the codecs based on the format support of the device that the client is running on. Since the client is, thus, not aware of the extractor, it won't be able to request only audio that the extractor can handle. There isn't really a way to work around this. The extractor probably just needs to be replaced with one more compatible with assorted audio streams.

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately I dont have an audio option in the menu inside Jellyfin on the Roku.  I did try another extractor but had the same result.  The one I bought specifically says it supports Dolby Digital so I dont know what's going on.
