Hello everyone! a pleasure to be here, first of all I would like to thank the whole jellyfin team for making this possible.

What kind of Linux distribution do you recommend for jellyfin?

    and microprocessor, intel or amd?

    Thanks in advance!

    take a look at https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/admini...-selection

jellyfin runs on just about everything as far as OS so choose one you are comfortable with and that supports your requirements

    TLDR

OS - Ubuntu (lots of documentation so easy to install and troubleshoot)
CPU - 8th gen+ Intel CPU. The transcoding quality of QSV is straight up better then Nvidia or AMD. Especially AMD.
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
    Storage
4x WD Red Pro 6TB CMR in RAIDZ1

Are there any details on this quality difference? I have seen it described in the guide as well .. right after i installed jellyfin on a newly bought mini-pc with ryzen cpu/igpu. Since i'm still within the return period, i'm wondering if it's actually worth switching.

    Currently it's a Ryzen 7 7735HS, with Radeon 680M / RDNA2.
Would probably switch to one with 12th gen intel, maybe even i5-13500H

    Thx

    I'm with TDP.

OS --> Ubuntu 22+ w/ Kernel to match up with your hardware/software preference (HWE kernel or bump up to 23+ if you're adventurous).
CPU --> Intel though I'd say if you can wait and/or spend the dough, you can get encode/decode AV1 support with Meteor Lake unless you plan on getting something like an Arc A3X0.

You can also get a really low-power processor that can knock the socks off most competitors as far as transcoding performance goes (if that's a concern). I think it's 11th gen and higher that support LPE modes, but it gets simpler with 12th gen (no fumbling with extra firmware configuration).

Thank you very much for your answers! I will take Intel then, what company do you recommend to set it all up on a VPS / Dedicated Server?

    Thanks once again!

If you're going with a VPS, Intel server processors DO NOT have an iGPU for transcoding.

it probably would have been best to lead with that, it would have changed the answers received

If you are going with a VPS, your media needs to be encoded for maximum compatibility. Transcoding is pretty much not an options with a VPS with no GPU. H264 main profile, 8-bit color depth for the video. Stereo AAC for the audio.
