I was having trouble connecting my tv to my jellyfin server so I hit the shutdown server button in the dashboard, and now I can't connect to local host on port 8096 to see my dashboard. How can i reconnect to the dashoard?

You will need to restart the server. Is this Linux or Windows? Is it Bare-metal or Docker?

When you "shutdown" a server, it completely turns it off. You then need to restart the server all together. So if this is Linux you could SSH into the server and sort that out. If bare-metal, type "sudo systemctl restart jellyfin". If this is Docker on Linux you would need to potentially restart the docker container. You can use docker commands like "sudo docker ps" to get the name of the container and then "sudo docker restart container_name_here" (Remove sudo from the Docker commands if you're in the Docker group for the user connected via SSH.

Windows I am not sure if you can powershell or anything to restart if bare-metal. However, you might want to try and restarting the server with the executable for Jellyfin.

I think the explanation is correct. The "Shutdown Server" option doesn't just log you out—it actually stops the Jellyfin service, so the web interface on port 8096 becomes unavailable until the service is started again. One thing I'd add is that it's helpful to first identify how Jellyfin was installed before trying to fix it.
