Chromecast with Google TV (HD) Unable to Play 4K Content

Hey guys, I'm struggling to get direct play of 4K content to work on my Google Chromecast with Google TV (HD) to work. Yes, I realise the maximum display output is 1920x1080 and that is fine, but I still would expect something with AV1 decoding abilities to at least decode 4K HEVC. 

Anyways, I have tried with Exosplayer and Libvlc and both result in a stuttery mess, maybe a few frames, or refusal to play. Audio sometimes works OK but video - nope.

I am using the official Jellyfin app - have not tried Kodi yet, would prefer to not have to use it. Any ideas? I have no issues on my old Xiaomi Mi Box.

Can you post your server specs and any jellyfin/ffmpeg logs?

I have this issue. Transcoding is completely disabled for this user, direct play only. I switched to a 4K version (even though it's a 1080p display) and no issues. It just doesn't want anything to do with 4k content. Not sure if this is a hardware or software issue.

Did you set the player to use libVLC or something?

Hi Guys,

I have the same problem. I use a Proxmox Server with a Jellyfin LXC Container. A Nvidia 1060 is used for Transcoding.
I have several Players in my house. Google Chromecast TV,m Google TV Streamer, Tizen App on Samsung TV, Webplayer, Android app on Smartphone.

All players are playing 4K Movies without Problems, except the Google Streambox. There is just a black Screen. While it tries to play the Movie, I can see on the Server Webinterface, that the player is connected and the Movie is "loaded". The admin panel also shows me that the movie is running untel 0:03 and then gets resettet to 0:00. So it runs 3 seconds... Any conclusion?

What is a "Google Streambox"? Do you mean the new Google TV Streamer?
