At the moment I'm running an old Android TV box with CoreELEC (Kodi) and the Jellyfin Kodi plugin.
This has been working great for the last couple of years but recently I've been facing the limitations of the device:
No 4K and bigger content cannot be played without a lot of buffering (100mbit NIC).
So I'm in the run for a new device, preferable a device which is easy to use for everyone in the family and can be used as universal streaming device (Netflix, Disney+ etc and of course Jellyfin).

A great device for this would be the AppleTV 4K (Gen  3) but what is the current status of Jellyfin for AppleTV?
Does it support direct-play? Can I use the Jellyfin client on AppleTV without transcoding?
    Any alternatives if not possible?

I'd stick with Android TV devices over Apple devices. Our Android clients are much more regularly updated than our Apple clients.

I like my Chromecast with Google TV 4K. It receives updates pretty regularly, has a pretty responsive UI, pretty good codec support, and is cheap.
