Custom episode order?

So, there are a couple of shows where I dislike the aired/DVD order and would like to customize it within the series page itself (ie, I pre-ordered the "Stranger Things" Blu-rays, but my preferred viewing order is to swap S2 ep 6 & 7). Is there a way to do this without making a playlist?

I obviously want to keep the metadata the same and just change the order

Export the metadata to .NFO files and then use an editor to change the episode numbers. It's the easiest way. Everything else stays the same but Jellyfin will see the episodes in the order you chose. You can do this with pretty much anything, like Star War: The Clones Wars, Spartacus, even the recent Scrubs and Malcolm in the Middle reboots can be added to the regular runs of the shows as new seasons.

In the TV show main folder you will have a tvshow.NFO file as well and there you can name the seasons if you choose.

Notepad++ it's a tiny program, more advanced than basic Windows Notepad, and pretty simple to use. Grab it, open a NFO file and poke around to see what all the fields are and do. The syntax is pretty easy to understand like <title>XXX</title> is obviously the title.

For TV shows there are (usually) 2 sets of syntax: season/episode and siaplayseason/displayepisode. The first let's you set the specific season and the episode order a show should be. The second is more for specials or inserts where it could be season00 (specials) but you want it to also display in season 4 before episode 6 as it aired between episode 5 and 6.

Once you have the NFO metadata you can manually edit almost anything to better suit your library needs, for all types of media. Movies, TV shows and episodes, music albums, random videos, images you name it.

For TV shows, specifically, I've used this method to re-orrder Star Wars: The Clown Wars to the chronological order, including the mobve as a special and also within the general run of the series in it's chronological place. For Spartacus, I made Blood and Sand season 1, Gods of the Arena season 2, then Vengence and War of the Dammned. Then added House of Ashur as season 5. Or put the Scrubs reboots as season 10 of the OG show and the Malcom in the Middle reboot as season 8. I created entire TV series out of AEW pay-per-view and special events through all this manual work. Sure it takes time and effort, but it's also gorgeous to look at.
