    Hello,

i've just installed Jellyfin 10.8.12-1 on a small x86_64 server with DietPi (Debian/Bookworm-based serverOS). I set up a new user (dj) with sudo rights, copied my music library from an external HD into the new users homefolder and installed Jellyfin from that new user using SSH.

So far everything went fine and i can access it with a browser from my home PC. But when i try to add my music folder it cannot find it. Path on server to that music library is /home/dj/Musiksammlung (=german for music collection).

I can find and add /home/dj, but when try adding the path /home/dj/Musiksammlung Jellyfin webinterface says it can't find folder.

I don't know exactly what's going wrong here. Any ideas on how i could fix this and bring Jellyfin to work would be highly appreciated.

You should not be storing your library in your home directory. The jellyfin user does not have access to your home directory. And you should not grant jellyfin access to your home directory.

Move your library to someplace like /media. That way you can safely set jellyfin as the owner.

Okay, thank you for your quick answer and your assistance.

I moved my music into /media/dj/Musiksammlung and it worked without any problems.

Looks like i haven't been reading enough before installing it. I had a look at the documentation of course, but i felt it was around the upper limit of my comprehension ability.

Is there anything like a beginners tutorial on how to setup, what to do and how to do it and what to avoid for example?

I'm in the process of writing a "Linux permissions for beginners" type post. No ETA.
