Hello! I'm trying to setup DLNA on my local Jellyfin install without enabling UPnP on my router, as I have no reason to port forward from my local network. I've been trying to find out if these two services can be separated and I haven't found a solid answer. It seems like DLNA can technically run without UPnP, but every client that mentions DLNA seems to connect through UPnP. Even though my devices can communicate within LAN without the need for port forwarding, it doesn't seem sufficient.

Has anyone managed to get a setup that streams through DLNA to clients on other devices within LAN without enabling UPnP? Or is it possible to severely limit UPnP to the point where it can only open specific ports to specific devices?
I did see that there's a "secure mode" for UPnP, but from the general consensus I could see online, it still wasn't worth enabling security-wise.

DLNA does not need uPnP since that is only for automating port forwarding for external access. DLNA is a LAN only protocol and is inaccessible outside your LAN.

DLNA used to be part of Jellyfin proper, but starting with 10.9 it was moved out of the main app and is now a plugin. So you have to install the plugin and, if you're on Linux, ensure that UDP is allowed on port 1900.
