Also, we would need to see the main jellyfin log.  What is attached in your last post is just the ffmpeg log.

The nas is a Synology NAS so not homemade.

i simply downloaded the jellyfin package from synocomunity and didn't change anything else. What do you mean the version does not match? is there anything i can do to verify?

I want to thank you once again for your patience

Does jellyfin not have full permissions to its directory? Can you verify that the user that runs the container has full permissions to every folder in its directory?

From the checks made it seems that all permissions are enabled.

However I did another test that actually unraveled the mystery.

I installed jellyfin for kodi (the add-on for Kodi) and indeed the subtitles are seen. At this point I can only apologize, but evidently the problem is not related to the server but to the client is that correct?

So I understand that the internal players libvlc and ExoPlayer are not able to read subtitles (whatever extension they have, I tried rts and pgs).
Not even if I start playback from my jellyfin web page.
This works instead if you enable an external player. It gets a little slow and cumbersome and seems to lose some quality but if this is real I see no alternative.

exoplayer and libvlc should see the subtitles. The only thing I can think of is that you are using the SynoCommunity image of Jellyfin, which isn't officially created or supported by the Jellyfin team.

Is it possible for you to install the official image in a test container?

    OK, sorry for the delay.

I installed via docker container (actually I was using the app from synocommunity before) .
I did some tests by playing the movie both from web with my pc and from fire tv. I played about 15 minutes of the movie hoping it was a subs loading problem.
But no dice--it just doesn't want to know.

There is nothing that stands out in either log. In fact, the jellyfin server log doesn't have any playback activity in it.

Is it possible for you to run jellyfin on a Windows PC? And use the same media files? Just for testing.

It is quite possible there is something off with the Synocommunity build of Jellyfin. It is not officially created and it is possible they made some change that broke subtitles on your system. Subtitles, embedded or external, should just work on any client.

Hi guys. I’ve been having the same problem for the past few months now.

Strange thing is it used to work, not sure exactly when it stopped and what changed. I’m running on Ubuntu using the official docker image.

Basically I know for sure my mkv files have subtitles. JF just does not see them. I downloaded and tried Subtitle Extract. The task completes in 0.1 seconds and nothing happens.

I downloaded and configure bazarr. Bazarr sees the embedded subtitles. But when I force a download an srt file it shows up in JF.

If anyone knows what has gone wrong with my JF please help me out! I’m really keen on getting this sorted. Not the same without subtitles.

    Thank you!

Can you share your full jellyfin server logs via pastebin?

    Hi

here is my log from today: https://pastebin.com/Tta2tuHJ

But I have now run in another issue in the last 2 days, my library isn't scanning, and giving me the following error: SQLite Error 8: 'attempt to write a readonly database'

Again, this is brand new behaviour, I have not changed a thing. I tried checking my Media folder permissions, they seem correct. I could not find a Jellyfin user though, does that mean it's running as root? I installed via docker compose on Ubuntu 23.04.

    Here is my compose file:

    version: '3.5'
    services:
    jellyfin:
    image: jellyfin/jellyfin:latest
    container_name: jellyfin
    ports:
    - "8096:8096"
    volumes:
    - /opt/jellyfin/configConfused-faceconfig
    - /opt/jellyfin/cacheConfused-facecache
    - /home/sb/Media/MoviesConfused-facemovies
    - /home/sb/Media/ShowsConfused-faceshows
    - /home/sb/Media/DocumentariesConfused-facedocumentaries
    restart: always

    Appreciate the help!

Update your container to 10.9.6. I see a bunch of messages about a read only database that was resolved in .6. I don't see any logs for playback.

    1. Update to 10.9.6 to resolve the database read only messages.
    2. Replicate the problem and then immediately share the log so the logs we want are at the bottom.
