Currently, in Jellyfin ( v12 rc2), the main Show page only displays the production studio and the overall release/end year of the series.
TV shows are dynamic. Over multiple seasons, directors, writers, and even production studios often change. Having this metadata hidden deep within individual episodes or completely absent makes it hard to get a complete overview of the show's creators from the main page. Additionally, season release years are not visible at a glance.
Proposed Changes
On the Show Page
Aggregated Creators: Display a combined list of all directors, writers, and studios who worked on the series across all seasons/episodes.
Source Material Tag/Field: Add an indicator or metadata field showing if the series is based on a book (e.g., "Based on the novel by..." or a dedicated "Source Material" field).
Season List Enhancement: Display the release year next to the season name in the seasons list.
Example: Season 1 (2012), Season 2 (2013).
On the Season Page
Display season-specific metadata: Studio(s), Release Year, Director(s), and Writer(s) that are specific to this particular season.
Why this is beneficial
Better Discovery: Users can easily find all works by their favorite director or writer across entire shows, not just individual episodes.
Context at a Glance: Seeing the year next to the season (e.g., Season 3 (201
) immediately helps the user understand the timeline of a long-running show without opening external databases like IMDb or TMDB.
Rich Metadata: Acknowledging literary sources (books) directly in the UI is highly valuable for book lovers and adds depth to the library.
Note: I am posting this here because the official feature request portal (features.jellyfin.org) is currently unresponsive and won't let me submit the request.
