Is there any way you can have folders just appear as folders rather than series?

I really don’t want to have to spend hours rearranging files and folders just to meet the assumptions of a piece of software.

Is there any way to ignore a subfolder in one library, but make it the root of another library (like in Plex)?

    Hey @Moilleadóir

There is an Option to browse folders:
Dashboard -> Libraries -> Display -> Display a folder view to show plain media folders

You can Ignore media folders by adding a .ignore file to the folder you want to ignore.
Keep in mind that jellyfin still relies on the folder structure and naming scheme to identify the media and obtain metadata from external providers. This is how jellyfin works and you are more or less required to structure your media Libraries that way to make jellyfin work as intended.
    typos are finders, keepers.

That’s really disappointing. I’ve always disliked music programs that required a certain structure. It seems like a waste of the abstraction that a database gives you, to rely on folder structure as information.

Plex is similar but the .plexignore file goes in the root folder & can refer to folders below it which can then be made the root of another library. Having to put an .ignore file into the folder itself means you can never add it to another library I would assume.

I can't believe that i also encounter the same problem with how the structure has to be like this. I already have a foldering structure as Genre/Artist/(Album, Song, and recursive) for 20 years and just fine, this is very disappointing

However unless you do not want any automated scraping, I would suggest arranging your library so that it works with a scraper.

Just mentioning for people ending up here later, if you already have your own structure and just need access to videos for Roku for example with DLNA, maybe you're better off adding folders with a type of "Home Videos and Photos". I was using the option "Display a folder view to show plain media folders" in Libraries>Display, and although this didn't do what I needed it to when using "Movies" folders,  using "Home Videos" instead works like a file browser, exactly what I needed.

    Many thanks to the developers.

Hello and sorry for jumping onto this subject...
I have it set on my system to show me folders, but it only goes down one instacne and does not get me info from subfolders...
    But my structure is like:
Parent directory -> Alphabetic sub directories -> Group/Artist folder -> actual mp3/flac files
I only get into the Alphabetic view and than it stops

    Thx in advance!!

I haven't been able to replicate. All of my "empty" folders were actually empty. Does Jellyfin have permissions to read your files and folders?

Hello and thx for your answer.
I have access to all music and video files via jellyfin but only via search or the right hand side alphabetic list.
If i go to the folder section between movies and music, it shows me the following:
    https://imgur.com/a/rB3MSxV
The picture ar ein the order of drilling in. Last shows the content of my folder that has all the artists starting with letter a in it, but the jellyfin view only shows what u see

Hope that helps to understand my problem

Ah. The "one item" issue. If there is only one item in a folder, that is often what you will see. If you press the play icon under the poster I am assuming it will play whatever single item is in there.
