Recently, within the last couple of weeks, I have been having the issue of videos freezing up at different intervals and the media taking at least 30 seconds or more to begin. I’ve also experienced where I paused a file and within one minute of resuming to watch, it would freeze and if I stopped it and then resumed, it would be fine until the next pause when it repeats. And just last night, I got a file to play, but then couldn’t pause it. I’ve been trying to troubleshoot the problem, but have yet to solve it. I have the Jellyfin server installed on a Windows 10 PC, the Jellyfin TV app installed on a Chromecast with Google TV, and my media on an external SSD drive. Here is what I have done so far. I tried running the file from a different drive including a nearly new one. I’ve tried different files (some I know have played perfectly in the past, but are now getting the freeze up). I have tried changing settings within the Dashboard of the server and also the settings on the TV app, but I really don’t know what I am doing there. I have updated to the latest server and uninstalled and reinstalled the TV app. All to no avail. The only things I can think that it could be is the Chromecast which is a couple of years old, something wrong with the server or app (either a corruption or an incorrect setting), or maybe my Wifi. Any suggestions on how I might fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Having a similar issue all of a sudden on Jellyfin Media Player for Mac and SwiftFin for iOS. For both, when I click play on any media the app freezes for around 20 seconds and becomes unresponsive before playing anything. Was working fine only a week ago. Also web player and the FireTV app still working flawlessly. Tried re-installing the apps, disabling certain plugins etc. I can't figure out what's causing it all of a sudden.

Edit: Infuse on iOS works fine also. So just Swiftfin and Jellyfin Media Player… strange

Can both of you share your jellyfin logs via pastebin or sourcebin.

Sorry for late response, issue is still on-going. Here's the relevant part from the logs:

    https://pastebin.com/raw/QhW5KP2x

I stopped playing the media as soon as it loaded, so as you can see for whatever reason it's taking 30+ seconds to load locally (during which time the Jellyfin Media Player app completely freezes and is unresponsive). It's not a transcoding issue, it's happening with all media played via the Media Player and phone app (I've noticed if I switch the phone app to use the experimental native player then it plays media straight away, but then I lose options such as changing audio etc).

    Any ideas?

Nothing out of the ordinary in the server log. Can you share your JMP log with us?

    Here's the JMP log: https://pastebin.com/raw/mrzE6ZqF

    Thanks!

Edit: I removed all custom CSS + themes, as well as disabled every plugin that was able to be disabled, restarted server, still having the exact same issue -- hoping someone can help me because this was working fine only a week or so ago Slightly-frowning-face

    EDIT:

Think I found the issue. It seems that going through http://jellyfin.local:port instead of http://ip:port is possibly the issue, but I don't understand why (http://jellyfin.local:port works fine on my desktop and laptop...) Any ideas? This DOES fix the issue on both JMP and Swiftfin -- for some reason both have an issue with going the http://jellyfin.local:port route even though it's a completely valid route.

Bumping this issue to see if anyone knows why it happens

The only thing I can find online about what would cause this is some DNS issue. Are you using a non-local DNS resolver?
