Hardware Suggestions for Disc Burner/NAS/Local Jellyfin Server

I have an old gaming rig that I'm hoping to convert into a hub for burning disc, storing the media on the NAS, and then having it also as a local Jellyfin server.

This is currently what's in it:
    • Intel i5-4670k
    • Asus Maximus VI Hero (there may be a hardware issue here that would require a replacement as it shuts down after exactly 30 minutes of uptime)
    • 24GB DDR3
    • Nvidia GTX 770
    • EVGA 850G2 power supply
    • Case with 6 HDD bays
    • 4K sata drive for burning

Now with the likely need to replace the motherboard would I be better off trying to upgrade the CPU to something with integrated graphics for better transcoding or just replacing the motherboard and keeping everything as is? Any suggestions for either?

    Thanks for any help!

You definitely need to upgrade. If you don't have a lot of users, just using a modern Intel CPU with an iGPU will meet your needs.

Here is the official hardware selection guide.

    https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/admini...selection/
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
    Storage
4x WD Red Pro 6TB CMR in RAIDZ1

    Thanks for the reply!

There most likely would be an absolute max of 2-3 users at a time. I know the hardware selection guide mentions Intel GPU is best, are there other advantages to going with a dedicated Intel GPU vs an Intel iGPU other than allowing for more users?

Also any possibly any motherboard recommendations?

There are two advantages with an Intel Arc GPU.

    1. AV1 encoding support
    2. Can tone map significantly more HDR to SDR transcodes.

Really appreciate your replies. One last question I have is would the AV1 codec be of any use on a server that is only playing movie files on a local network?

Only if you have very limited disk storage, you could squeeze ~10-15% more content in the same amount of space for the same quality. Also useful if you have a potato Internet connection. Helps you maximize your bandwidth.
