Sometimes, when using the seek bar, it just seems to not work. For example, if I try to skip forward from the beginning of a movie to somewhere an hour in, it just teleports me right back to where I was. It seems to instead be skipping forward a few seconds every time I try. This is very annoying, and I have no clue how to fix it. Even worse, it's intermittent. How would I go about fixing this?

The one that most recently did this is mp4. It is 1080p, if that matters. I don't remember what else did it enough to tell you the format of the others, I'm sorry.

Tried swapping from direct to transcoded and in very low bitrate, and it did the same thing unfortunately. I have had some issues with plex get solved with transcoding as well and figured it might fix it when that happened, but it didn't

I should note that I have only seen this happen on windows so far, on the website and in the app.

It is happening again, but interestingly enough only when it is transcoded. Any fix for this would be very appreciated. Using jellyfin latest.

Edit: I went to the windows app version after skipping to the segment, and it allowed me to skip while transcoded. Odd and inconsistent, unfortunately.

Been having these issues as well since i started using jellyfin like a year ago, both on windows in browser and via android app. It seems to work for a bit and then it just teleports back to where it was before the timeskip. Jellyfin runs as a docker on Unraid. NAS specs: i5-7600K, 16GB RAM DDR4

It doesn't happen every time, but if i had to guess maybe 20-30% of the time. Definitely somewhat frequently. The only real workaround is to reset the watch progress of the file, and seek to the time you want to resume at. That has so far worked every time. Not doing that and just trying to rewind again never works once the issue occurs, and it inevitably jumps again.

When it just happened now on windows i checked to see if it was transcoding, and it's not, although it is remuxing because it's .mkv. Practically all my files are .mkv

Based on what you described, two things are likely at play. The player is rejecting long jumps because it has not buffered the target point, or the stream has seek limits tied to program markers, ad breaks, or DRM rules. That is why it snaps back or only hops a few seconds. It also explains why the problem comes and goes.
