Is HEIF going to be supported soon? I read a couple of threads like heif-photo-support and heif-support that talked about it in 2023 but I cannot find anything more recent. Anyone have a clue?

The library we use (SkiaSharp) doesn’t have HEIF support, so Jellyfin doesn’t have support. I briefly looked into adding support but it looked like it was going to be a fairly invasive change so I put it on hold.

just started with Jellyfin. Came for the ease of photo sharing alongside media.

If the goal is to keep photo sharing as a feature, this is required. HEIC is not just apple and the main competitor in this space (Immich) has this support.

I would hardly call Immich a competitor to Jellyfin. I recommend just using Immich if your goal is to backup and share photos.

The original goal for me was to share media in my household, video and images included.

As one of my use cases is to share photos and jellyfin claims this, I do think immich is a competitor here. This competitior has HEIC support.

Would rather not have two different systems so i'm hoping Jellyfin will add this support.
