iOS updated to 16.6.1 and now video won't stream - Error 1008

My iPhone just updated to iOS 16.6.1 and now video that would stream fine before won't stream at all. Eventually and error message will come up saying ""The AVPlayer instance has failed with the error code -1008 and domain "NSURLErrorDOMAIN"". I have tested this with 2 different JF servers getting the same result. Does the iOS app need an update?

Which iOS app are you using? Jellyfin Mobile? Or Swiftfin?

Try swiftfin.  Jellyfin mobile hasn't been updated in a while.

I downloaded SiftFin, much prefer the JellyFin app design. Regardless, tried playing the same content and nothing played.

I'm on an iPhone 8 FWIW. Had no issues streaming content before. Now JF doesn't even attempt to transcode the media to push to my phone. Possibly something in this iOS update broke the connection to the JF server?

I've restarted the PC running my JellFin server, re-stared the server and rest the setting on the JellyFin app and still having the same issue. No video media will playback. Just goes into endless buffereing.

I've tried over WIFI on my LAN and through mobile data. I have a fibre gigabite ISP connection and no issues there.

All media plays fine across my LAN through both Windows explorer and Kodi/JellyFin installations.

Wasn't having this issue (that I am aware) prior to this recent iOS update.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues? It doesn't matter if it's the JellyFin or SwiftFin app, same result.

No, is that just a media streamer, not affiliated with JellyFin?

I have connected the JF apps to 2 different JF servers in 2 different locations and get the same failure to stream video content.

I should add the using the JF Windows app everything plays back fine. The JF server is on a different machine than the media is stored and connected through LAN. Also streaming to another location using the JF Windows app works. The issue only seems to be my iPhone after the iOS update at this moment.

Still haven't found a solution for this issue. My server streams just fine to other locations using the JF Windows app and the JF Kodi plugin, but still not on iOS. I did get 2 TV shows episodes to work, both H.264 MKVs, that same as thousands of other TV episodes and hundreds of movies, but nothing else I've tried has worked. Not even small 150MB videos. The app just hangs and eventually goes back to the menu screen and the error message comes up. Same thing with SwitFin.

This has killed functionality for 2 users of my server.

Could you share your server logs with us? And ffmpeg logs if they exist.

You can force transcoding by lowering the max bit rate for each user to something below the bit rate of your content.
