Hi, the question is basically in the subject. I've been using a 1060 GTX in my server but now I need it in a gaming rig and I was wondering what would be a good video card specifically for encoding purposes. I happened upon some threads which recommended the P400 but they were 2 years old and I'm curious if it's still the case or not. Thanks.

P400 comes with 256 cuda cores and 2GB of VRAM. This makes it even inferior to some Intel iGPUs.

Compared to 1060, this is a downgrade. But if it's for personal use only, it should perform just fine. Otherwise it can easily run out of memory.

I know it's a downgrade but usually it's 1 stream, maybe 3 max. I got myself a gaming laptop 2 years ago, that's when the 1060 became a "spare" but now I want to use it in a gaming rig again. The NAS is a lower end AMD CPU which can't even handle 1 stream.

Can you recommend an alternative? Or a thread with recommendation. Thanks.

3 streams shouldn't be a problem for the P400. But if you are spending money on a GPU for the sole purpose of transcoding, your money would be better spent on an Intel Arc GPU.
