I keep trying to build jellyfin-git from AUR using yay but it keeps breaking. There's also other packages mentioned such as jellyfin-web, jellyfin-server and jellyfin-ffmpeg but I'm not too techy to understand what I should be doing with which. Thanks for your support.

Yeah I've checked everything already and since I couldn't find a good tutorial for how to set up Jellyfin for dummies, this is where I ended up. I'll try to make this easier though since my question might seem too vague for some people, such as the user above. Is there a native app for Jellyfin on Arch Linux? Which one of the Jellyfin packages should I go with?

yea pretty sure if you wanted something "for dummies" you should have stayed on windows, the wiki i linked shows exactly how to do it

    try this https://bbs.archlinux.org/

What's with the tone bro? And what kind of a response is "you should have stayed on windows?" Shouldn't be anyone's concern what OS I'm using. But my apologies though, the Installation section for an app usually has everything but the desktop client installation was not there. Turns out it's in a separate Clients section or the third section on the Jellyfin page on Arch Wiki. But this still doesn't answer which packages I should be installing (not talking about desktop client). jellyfin-web, jellyfin-server, jellyfin-ffmpeg, jellyfin-git or the AUR packages for web and server? Or does the desktop clients handle all that the same? And which desktop client should I install?

trust me, i don't GaS what OS you run but if you wanted "point and click" that's a windows thing
i provided a link but i expected to be talking to a linux user who reads links

    jellyfin-web is the server "GUI"
    jellyfin is the server
jellyfin-ffmpeg is used to transcode to clients

the link i gave you states this

    Quote:jellyfin-server — main server backend
    jellyfin-web — web front-end

(and no i am not part of the jellyfin team, regular user here to help other regular users)

Well enough bickering since I'm getting flack for asking for a more straightforward setup on Arch Linux or even using Arch but whatever. Is jellyfin-media-player the same as jellyfin-web?

You should be able to just install Jellyfin from the AUR packages. Shouldn't have to build anything.

    https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/instal...arch-linux
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB

Well it's an AUR package, which means you build the package and then install it. I use yay, it functions like pacman. yay builds the AUR package for you and installs it. I tried installing jellyfin-git and yay couldn't build it. There might be dependency issues, which led me here. What are the packages I should be installing (this is probably the more coherent question since I found almost nothing straightforward about Jellyfin on Arch)?
