    Hello everyone,

I have a general question regarding Jellyfin IPTV.

I hope I'm expressing myself clearly enough.

When you watch IPTV via Jellyfin using an M3U file, does Jellyfin establish the connection to the IPTV provider and then forward the stream to the client?
Or does Jellyfin simply pass the IPTV connection details to the client, and the client opens the connection directly?

What I'm aiming for: I would like to watch IPTV anonymously and have thought of the following setup:

Proxmox -> LXC container -> VPN + Kill Switch -> Jellyfin IPTV -> Anonymous IPTV on my client

    Thanks
    Regards
    Wey

It depends. If the client can direct play the video stream, the client will directly connect to the IPTV stream. But there is a setting where you can force all live TV streams to transcode, which forces the server to connect to the stream and then serve the transcode to the client.

    Hi @TheDreadPirate

Thank you very much for your response.

Could you tell me exactly which setting it is to force all live TV streams to transcode? I looked through the settings but couldn't find anything specific.

    Thank you
    Best Regards

Dashboard > Users > Select a user. Under "Media Playback" will be the option "Force transcoding of remote media sources such as Live TV". Check that box and save. You will have to do this for every user.
