    Rocket Jellyfin Server 12.0 RC3

We are pleased to announce the third release candidate preview release of Jellyfin 12.0!

This is a preview release, intended for those interested in testing 12.0 before its final public release. We welcome testers to help find as many bugs as we can before the final release.

As always, please ensure you stop your Jellyfin server and take a full backup before upgrading!

    A note about versioning

Starting with this release, we are dropping the preceding 10. from our versioning. Thus, 10.11.x -> [10.]12.x = 12.x. The reason is simple: at this point in the project, we don't envision a hard break in the API like we planned way back in the early days, and this version scheme was causing a lot of confusion amongst users about what a "major" release was. For more information, please see the RC1 release notes.

    What's new?

The main goal of this release has been performance. 10.11.0 dropped a major backend rewrite, and while it was broadly functional, it had a lot of rough edges. This release seeks to polish out most of those rough edges and bring better performance to all users.

There are many other small fixes, improvements, changes, and translations. See our draft release notes here.

Note: You must be on Jellyfin 10.10.7+ or 10.11.x (ideally, 10.11.11) before upgrading! If you are not, the upgrade will fail. Ensure you upgrade to one of these versions first!

Note: The initial load of Jellyfin 12.x will run a few migrations and will take several minutes. Please be patient and do not interrupt the process. You can leverage the (newly improved!) startup UI on your local network to see specific progress, or off-network to see general progress, by visiting the server URL in your web browser during startup.

Note: If you install the RC, you should disable all external plugins and reinstall using the unstable plugin repository, or plugins may fail to load and cause unintended side effects.

    Installing

This preview release is distributed in all our traditional forms, though not automatically via our Apt repository or latest tag.

    * For all non-Docker environments, you can find the files for manual download in our repository by selecting "Stable Preview" for your OS.
    * For Docker, you can pull the 12.0-rc3 or preview tags.

As someone who has stayed at 10.10.7, i finally had some time to back up my instance and install RC3 and it is looking amazing. It is using less resources and performance on long running tv series is very much improved, all season load without lag.
I will be testing this over the weekend, but for far it has been great.
Thanks again to all the devs working on this great project.

V12 is already an improvement from v10 as I see. I'm monitoring for the slow sync with large music library, using Symphonium and I understand that most important fix for this issue have not been yet released, so it's very promising for the coming updates:
Issue #15362: Music Library API & Sync Performance Degradation
    Issue #16062: Query Performance Improvements
Issue #14380: Slow Performance of Music Album Items

As I simply I don't see these in the release note, I will look for it with the coming updates which will focus on V12 as we can see in some announcement, which makes very sense based on the actual good level of the RC3

Please, don't hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong.

I have updated from 10.10.7 to this RC3 & it is working great & fixes the bugs in version 11 only one thing I have found is the scans are a lot slower than 10.10.7 eg Refresh People & Scan the media library used to do in a few minutes now between 10-25 minutes maybe a bug which needs to be look at ?. Great work on this update

To piggy-back off my question in the RC2 thread about collection issues, has the issue with cast lists randomly not showing entries also been resolved? Not sure why JF does this, but some cast lists, specifically big ones, seem to have random entries just not there.

Also also naming for specials in TV show seasons, is that something possible now or still stuck with either the name Speicals or the name of the specials folder?
    JF Wish List:
    IMDb Top250 metadata
    Read Music Album Sort
Soundtrack link to movie by title/sort/Manual
Media info shows added to Collections
    Collections WL:
    Content Rules - Library-Title/Sorttitle/Tag/Director/Filename/Contains
    Organized by Library
    Scanned to Editable XML

I may suggest you, to have a look on the release note list on this page between RC1 to 3.

Still on-going is Jellyfin transcoding live stream with audio AAC-HE AAC in both Firefox and Safari clients.
Jellyfin 10.10.7 did not. It is puzzling .....

Tried to upgrade to RC3, a lot of the problems I have had with 10.11.x is now gone Smiling-face
But, as usual, some of my playlists was gone after updating, same has happened before, strange but not a big deal Smiling-face

I was running 10.11.11 on my Macbook running unstable Devaun Ceres for faffing around quickly before copying CDs over to the slow reliable Kunbus Industrial Raspeberry Pi server running 10.11.11 on Devuan Excalibur.
I updated the Macbook to Jellyfin 12 RC3. With only 7 artists and 25 albums it updated very quickly!
The user interface has changed a bit. I have no particular opinion on that other than "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
With only 7 different artists comprising Beethoven, Pierre Boulez, Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band, Gustav Holst, Janis Joplin, John Zorn, Gyorgi Lygeti Jellyfin is only showing Albums beginning the letter you choose. 'T' shows Trout Mask Replica. There is no big grid of all albums as there is on 10.11.11.

Then we try sorting by Artist and Album Artist. 12 RC3 is NOT picking up the metadata correctly! I make heavy use of MusicBrainz Picard so I know the Artist and Album Artist is set to Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band. Jellyfin has decided the Artist and Album Artist is Trout Mask Replica!
    /var/lib/jellyfin/metadata/artists/Trout Mask Replica

On 10.11.11 I have /var/lib/jellyfin/metadata/artists/Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band

Is there a better place to report this bug?

First, start a thread in troubleshooting and provide screenshots if what you're seeing.  If we can't figure it out there, we will direct you to submit a github issue.
