First time posting here. I’m running into an issue where I cannot add a folder or create a new library and assign a media path in Jellyfin.

If I do a clean install of Jellyfin, everything works as expected and I’m able to add folders without any issues. However, my main installation contains several users along with a lot of watched/continue watching data that I don’t want to lose.

When I try to add a library, I get the following error:

“There was an error adding the media path. Please ensure the path is valid and Jellyfin has access to that location.”
Has anyone come across this before or can recommend a possible fix?

I’m fairly new to the more technical side of things, so I’m not sure where to start troubleshooting. At this stage I’m assuming a clean reinstall might be the only option, but I’d prefer to avoid losing all existing user data if possible.

Thanks for the info 👍 This helped clear up a few things for me. I was also trying to figure out a similar setup and wasn’t sure if it was a config issue or something client-related. Good to know it’s usually just settings or compatibility tweaks rather than something major.
If anyone has optimized settings for smoother playback, feel free to share them.
