    Hi,

I am very new to jellyfin and server setups, and so hopefully this is a very basic issue!

I have setup Ubuntu Server [Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS] on a mini pc, using an SSD.  I have then installed Jellyfin and have the web interface up and running.

After a few issues with getting any test media onto the SSD via Filezilla.  The issue here was that Jellyfin was stuggling to see the new file paths and other areas of the file tree would not let me write access.  (this might be part of the problem - these are stored in /home/tom/Media).

I now have 2 albums in this location as a test but the library scanning wont get past 0% (Audio Normalisation / Scan Media Library).  I feel that this might be due to write issues or internet connectivity?

    Thanks, Tom

Your home directory is private and locked down. Since Jellyfin server runs as the jellyfin user, it does not have access to your home. Nor should it.

If you have files that need to be shared with other users or accessed by a server application, like Jellyfin, you need to move your files outside of /home. /media is a common directory that people use for this purpose.
