Media server that can handle large number of media files?

I have been trying out Jellyfin and although it looked like Jellyfin could fit my needs I am currently looking for an alternative media server since Jellyfin can't handle large number of media files. Is Plex or Emby a better solution for this? Can they handle large number of media files?

i can tell you jellyfin is based on emby and they handle the same number of files
and plex is corporate garbage so good luck there

What do you mean by this.  Many many users here have 50TB+ of content in their Jellyfin.  As long as you set things up correctly Jellyfin can easily handle as many files as your hardware can store.

Have have an extremely large library of both movie and shows and jellyfin works perfectly fine. Initial library scan does take some time but after that it's smooth sailing.

What do you mean by this.  Many many users here have 50TB+ of content in their Jellyfin.  As long as you set things up correctly Jellyfin can easily handle as many files as your hardware can store.

What I am referring to is that if you have large albums with over 200 songs in them then you can't play them, which makes Jellyfin unusable as a media server.

Since this bug has been around since 2020 in many forms I am not very confident it will ever be fully fixed, so therefore I am looking for an alternate media server that can handle large albums.

Probably best you go with a stand alone music media server like subsonic if you want development focused on music.

While I enjoy using Jellyfin to host my visual media, I tried adding my music collection long ago. I ended up not liking how Jellyfin handled music, so I only have Jellyfin handle video files. I switched to something else just for music.

Maybe this type of setup appeals to you? Have Jellyfin just play videos, and something else handle music?

pretty much same except i've never tried jellyfin for music

i haven't dealt with this type of thing since i got my beta invite for google music over 10 years ago which hosted everything for me
(~2011)

now it all goes to youtube music which i guess is fine but i haven't tried to add anything in several years since i started using unlimited music streaming services

The issues referenced seem to be specifically about how jf-web interacts with the API to queue songs.

The reason it hasn't been fixed yet, is because none of the current (code) contributors are regularly playing very large albums, and as such are not encountering this particular corner case and getting annoyed by it.

My current largest "album" is 110 songs, and it works fine.

Tried out Plex and it works well but as you say it is very corporate and has seen some dodgy privacy issues lately, but it does work.

Tried out Emby also and it works very well with no issues at all with large albums, so it seems that at least it doesn't have the same bugs as Jellyfin, even though it's a fork.

But I really like Jellyfin, it's almost perfect for my needs. I tried some workaround kludges by splitting the large albums down and it seems to work, although it doesn't look very pretty.
