Moving content between folders in a library

    What happens to metadata?

I currently have 1 share for my Movies library but may need to add a second path.  As a result of the new share and balancing things out, I may need to move films from the old to the new share.

When I do this, will the path change be easily picked up by Jellyfin and simply update the path, or will it rescan, pull new metadata, etc.?

Previously when I did this with Zappiti Video it would just update the path and all metadata remained, just checking if I can expect the same behaviour.
Apologies for any responses that seem short/rude, on the spectrum and get frustrated very easily with technology. Do my best to keep it under wraps but doesn't always work when something isn't going as it should. Weary-face

I had to do something similar when I added a new hard drive and split up a couple of the libraries across 2 hard drives.

From my experience, the "check for new files/updates" scan will pick up the new path. No change in metadata, IIRC.

What would be the best way to do this on Windows?

I have a library setup called "Movies"
Under that Library, one of the paths is "E:\_moviedir\silentfilms"
I want to move all those movies in that path to "G:\_moviedir\silentfilms"

Do I just add path "g:\_moviedir\silentfilms" to the "Movie" Library and then start moving them, leaving "E:\_moviedir\silentfilms" alone in the library config until the move is over?

Can I just shut down the server, move the files and edit AppData\Local\jellyfin\root\default\Movies\Silentfilms.mblink and just replace the path there to  "g:\_moviedir\silentfilms" and run a scan?

Add "g:\_moviedir\silentfilms" to the library settings, make sure real time monitoring is NOT enabled, start copying your files over, once that has finished "scan all libraries". Once that finishes you would remove the E drive folder from the library settings.

Was so hoping this would work, but... whilst obviously the files appeared back in the library, all metadata changes were lost. Hope the devs add an easy way to do this without having to manually mess around with the database.
