I recently built a new pc and want to transfer my jellyfin server over to the new pc. I have all my media on an external hard drive, on which it can stay. I'd also like to transfer all configuration settings or at least metadata. I've found it quite hard to transfer separate files from %programdata% and other such folders. also, the server setup doesn't appear sometimes. thanks in advance for the advice.

I'm not sure that I completely understand the challenge you're having, but if you're not changing the operating system, transferring to a new PC should be as easy as copying the configuration directories from one system to the other. Just make sure that your media is mounted to the same location on the new machine (if it was D: before, make sure it's D: again, for example). The server setup will not appear if you copy the config directories, as it will load the config from your old machine and start using those settings immediately. The server should simply be available from the new machine. If you need to make minor changes, you can simply edit the configuration XML files to change things like the port or the bindings.

When I copy the entire jellyfin folder in both ProgramFiles and the hidden ProgramData sections and place them in the same directory on the new pc, I load up jellyfin the only option I have is to connect to my server on my old laptop as if my new pc was just a web client. I'll check what you said about the drive letter but it should default to D:. Continuing on, you mention config directories, could you tell me all the config directories I will need to transfer over and what not to transfer over?

EDIT: So after turning on my pc, everything seems to be just fine, settings haven't carried over but that's ok, shows have kept their same format and descriptions are there too. It's odd how just letting it sit fixes things. Thanks for the help, made sure my drive and everything is the same on my new pc an all works fine.
