I'm preparing to move from a UGREEN DH4300+ to a DXP8800+ to increase my storage capacity and throughput.  Is there anything I can do as I prepare for my Jellyfin setup?  Or am I pretty much back to square one and will need to install a fresh version of Jellyfin on the new server?

    Hiya, provide some additional details about your current Jellyfin setup;

what version are you currently running?
what version do you plan to move to on the new NAS?
do you have 'nfo metadata' enabled on all your libraries?
how is Jellyfin currently installed (docker, apt, snap, etc) and how do you plan to run it on the new NAS?
how many media files do you have to migrate?
how much disk space does the media current consume?

in any case, good luck! Smiling-face

Ugh...I wish I had caught your message before about an hour ago.  I checked when I first posted for a couple of days and didn't see a response, and then forgot I asked.  Now I've started the process of moving!

What version? I was running V10.11.6 on my previous NAS and was intending to continue with that on the new.

nfo metadata enabled?  If it was enabled as a default, then yes.  I don't remember specifically enabling it.  I assume any corrections and overrides of metadata I made would be included here?  This is what I REALLY don't want to lose.  I've got HOURS invested in this. Is there a way to check (look for particular files?) on the new NAS?

How is it installed? I used Docker based on this video.  I started the same process on the new NAS.  I downloaded jellyfin and when I went into the container I see that there is one there -- the one from the old NAS.  It is showing that it is in a Restarting mode.  Which is where I am stuck now -- unsure if this is any good or if I need to delete and restart the process.

How many media files? I can't get exact numbers since I've taken the old NAS down, but as I recall:
    • Music - 8,000+ songs
    • Movies - 150 + extras
    • TV shows - 40-50?  Along with hundreds of episodes/extras

How much disk space currently consumed? 14 terrabytes

Any suggestions at this point? Or did I shoot myself in the foot and need to start over???

Just one bump to see if anyone has any ideas to help? I'm about to the point where my want of using Jellyfin is taking over my want to not have to recreate a bunch of info. It was just easier to adjust movie by movie, series by series, as they were added then to go back and have to research the whole library.

    Hey wbtczn,

Sorry I missed your original reply somehow!

Unfortunately 'nfo metadata' is not enabled by default - when enabled, it creates NFO files in with all the data a a move to the same version of Jellyfin on *another* server would need to easily import all the media and has all your amendments and corrections for importing.

I *believe* that without this option enabled (it's set per library) then the data is eith held in the SQLlite database instead or in files within the Jellyfin installation rather than in your 'library data' and so unless you made backups and exported them 'offsite' for want of a better term, then you will need to go through the process of building the Jellyfin installation again.

When rebuilding, find the option "PER library" called 'Metadata Savers' , and tick the "Nfo" option.

You then might want to review "Dashboard > Libraries > NFO Settings" too with some additional options for those NFO files.

Good luck once again! and whilst Docker seems like a neat concept/package, may I recommend installing from the Jellyfin PPA instead: https://jellyfin.org/downloads/server

    Till next time! o7

Thanks for the response.  When I click on the link it I then click on the Downloads button and see this screen.  What am I supposed to do from here?  Click on one of these? Both of these?

Wbtczn, ok it shouldnt have taken you there - weird.

On that page you *are* ending up at, you see the first two lines of text under the Jellyfin logo. The second one has a link telling you to go to "our main downloads page" - click on that.

Then follow your required/understood/chosen installation method.

Thanks.  Two steps forward, one step back for me! I've got the Jellyfin Desktop downloaded and installed and entered my URL (192....:8096) but all it does is spin.  I've double/triple/quadruple checked the URL and I've got the correct one.  It's the same one I use on my phone (minus the :8096) with the UGREEN app and I get into it just fine.  What am I missing?

I think Im on a completely different page to you with regards to your situation.

This started as: you are preparing to move from UGreen storage to DXP800 storage, why were you preparing to move? was something wrong already?

    Regards

Sorry! The only thing wrong is that I realized that I was putting a TON more onto the original server than I thought I had and was concerned that I would run out of space. So, I moved my (4) 16-TB drives to the 8800+ where I can add 4 additional drives. I've got (2) 26 TB drives that I am adding to the mix.

I've got the new server (8800+) all set up and usable. I just need to get Jellyfin established to used the folders there. Does that help?
