Hello, I recently set up a jellyfin server (10.11.Nerd-face on my Synology NAS, running in docker using the Container Manager app. I still have access to my admin account, but I also created a regular user account for myself, which I somehow lost the password for. I tried various troubleshooting methods, but didn't have any success, so I tried deleting the user account, but that failed as well (I'm not worried about losing what little watch progress I've logged so far). The user account should not be locked because the amount of retries is set to -1

The first thing I tried was the "Forgot Password" option on the logon screen. Nothing appears to happen when I enter the user name and click "Submit", however, I was able to access the docker instance and find that a passwordreset<hash>.json file is being created with a PIN, but the web UI never changes or asks me to enter the PIN. I use Firefox as my default browser but I also tried Edge and got the same results.

After this I tried using the root account to manually reset the password via the dashboard, trying a few possible current passwords I thought might work, but naturally this was unsuccessful, since the server is relatively new and I haven't watched very much yet, I decided to try deleting the account and re-making it, but the delete user action just spins, nothing ever happens. I found some threads online of people saying that running the "cleanup playlists" task and then deleting the user worked, but that didn't help me.

I would like to get the password reset through the UI working, but I think there might be some deeper permissions issue going on here, given the multiple issues.

If you are on the admin account you do NOT need to provide the "current" password to change a user's account. Just change it without providing the current password and see if that works. If not, we would need to see your jellyfin logs to troubleshoot further. Please upload them to pastebin.com and share the link.

Oh yeah, I did try that as well. For good measure, I just tried it again but I get the "Login Failure: Invalid username or password. Please try again." error. Here are the relevant logs for that action:

But based on what I saw in these logs it looks like something between the database and web app got out of sync so I tried rebooting the server and that fixed my issue! I was able to reset the password the way you described and then log in to that account. I guess I forgot the classic adage to try turning it off and on again.  Laughing

I THINK what you experienced is a known issue that should be resolved in Jellyfin 12. I've had a similar issue where the database locked out when I tried to login. Restarting was the only solution.
