Music Library Album Artist Duplication

Hi

How do I get Jellyfin to only recognise album artists by tags and not by folder name?  I am using Jellyfin12 RC2

I am having issues with artists such as AC/DC.  I run all my albums through MusicBrainz Picard to make sure they are tagged and named correctly.  Clearly a folder cannot be names AC/DC, so I have it set to replace the / with an _ so my folder is maned AC_DC

The problem is AC/DC and AC_DC both appear in the library with exactly the same content

I do use Navidrome as a music server which works perfectly, but I would like to get it working in Jellyfin too if possible.

I chose "AC+DC" as the folder name for mine. I do NOT have a dupe.

Does the "AC_DC" artist have ALL of their discography in there? Or only a subset? If only a subset, can you use ffprobe on one of those songs and share the output?

When you go into AC+DC, is it a dupe of ALL of their albums? Or just some? If it is just some, go to the files that are present in AC+DC and use ffprobe to print out their tags. I suspect some of them don't have tags.

When you have artists organized by folder name, the folder name is used to create the artist. If there is a misspelling, then you'll get dupes. In this case, you can't change the folder name to what Jellyfin wants, hence the dupe. You can, however, work around the issue with an artist.nfo file in the artist folder.

Remove the .txt extension from the attached nfo file and place it in the AC_DC folder. Then rename the AC_DC to .AC_DC (just place a dot in front of the name). Then scan your library; this will cause Jellyfin to remove all the music in that folder. After the scan is done, remove the dot(.) from the folder name and scan your library again. This time, you should now have two artists, both named AC/DC. Now you need to perform a second scan to remove the dupes.  

Note: in 12.0 the web client caches the pages with updates every 60s. To see changes instantly after scanning a library, log out and back in.

Everything is duplicated exactly.  Like I said, I run all my music through musicbrainz picard, so everything is tagged.  I'll give the nfo trick a try.
