Release notes state "This release fixes several regressions from 10.11.7" which sounds nice <3

Does this include a fix for large homevideo/music video libraries that are folder sorted?
Library -> open -> 100 folders with additional sub and sub-sub folders inside and 20k+ items, do they open now without the disable user data plugin?

A far as I’ve read online it unfortunately does not which is disappointing. It took days to recreate and rescan a couple of my libraries when I needed to downgrade last time so I’m in no hurry to try it gain until I see a few reconfirmations that it’s been fixed.

For now it seems to work for me. I updated from 10.10.7 on Sunday and so far it "works".
It is still less responsive compared to 10.10.7. I can't see the benefit of all the "under the hood" work, on a user perspective.
Larger libraries take a moment to appear, and while all this circles are rotating my 20 core "Core Ultra" is almost idleing.
That said it seems internal locks blocking some progress I would guess.

But all-in-all it works now. Not like my earlier tries with x.1 and x.2 ... that was a horrible experience.

The Home-Library stuff still seems to be a little bit messy tho. But for me this also seems to work for now. However, I updated a working installation and have not added any further files so far. The last Library Scan was 7 hours ago, took 3 hours and is declaired to be "aborted" - I don't know why.

    Hello,

I'm currently still using 10.10.7 on Debian 12 via the repository. I'd like to update to 10.11.8 and have a question:

My users aren't created in Jellyfin but come from a Samba AD (Univention / UCS 5.2). In JF 10.10.7, the connection works without any issues. Will the LDAP connection also work with 10.11.8?

    Best regards

I'm no software expert, but releasing publicly severe security issues of old versions, when the new one is far from being usable seems a bit... meh. Like letting your users down a bit. OK, I can understand the devs did not really expect and test for the kind of scenario which causes the sluggishness, but I don't really understand the need to force people to the 10.11 branch by publishing security flaws in older versions, when 10.11 is not production ready.

This is due to the bad side of Open Source.
The problem is already public. It just needs time to compare the source version to see what has been changed and if you are clever, you get behind the issue sooner or later...

I’d want to create an update/upgrade guide for Windows 11 users regarding the upgrade from Jellyfin version 10.10.7 to 10.11.8.

I have the standard categories like Movies and TV Shows. In Jellyfin 10.10.7, I had uploaded documentaries to the Movies and TV Shows category, and everything works fine. I don’t have any home videos or music, but I do have books. In total, I have 2,500 movies, 460 TV series, and 110 books.

I’ve always been cautious about updates, and this is now my first attempt to upgrade from 10.10.7 to 10.11.X.

I made a full backup of the Jellyfin server folder beforehand, which is located at C:\Program Data\Jellyfin\ on my system.
I also use Aomei Backup to create weekly incremental backups to a separate SSD. So I was doubly protected.

I launched the Jellyfin 10.11.8 installer, went through the standard setup, and confirmed the update at the beginning. Then I opened Jellyfin in the browser and watched as a sequence of tasks began. The view is CLI. At the same time, I opened the Task Manager and noticed that system usage wasn’t particularly high during the migration. The whole process took 5 minutes and ended with Jellyfin shutting down and nothing visible in the browser. Shortly after, I restarted Jellyfin via the system tray and was able to access all my content in no time.

    FYI
Update all plugins once after the migration!
Run a full scan of your library once

Everything is working! Thank you very much

Just to add again - anyone who uses "Home Movies and Photos" with folders should not yet update if they want to use those libraries until this is actually fixed. Still shocked it hasn't been since "Movies" and "Shows" are at best a grey area in terms of usecase.
Jellyfin 10.11.5 - soon to rollback to 10.10.7
Hopeful of a home videos and photos fix so I can come back to 10.11.x
