I have a 10y.o currently.  He watches all C, G and PG content we have no issue but i can't seem to restrict him to PG without letting him see all the M, MA, MA15+ etc.
Am i missing something or is there a way to edit or mod this?

Still relatively new to jellyfin admin as i have only been on the platform for about a year.

    TIA

While not an exact answer/solution to your problem, what does work is restricting by tags.

Just go to each media that you don't want him to watch and give them a unique tag (ex: noKids, AdultOnly, etc.). Then in the dashboard, go to your son's profile and block all media with the tag you created. You can then later remove this restriction when your son is older.

You don't have to go episode by episode too. If the tag is set on the show, all its seasons will be blocked. If the tag is only set on a specific season or episode, that season or episode alone will be blocked from the show and nothing else.

Also, with v10.9, adding tags will also apply the tags to all media under it.

I had thought of that and its great that it filters down on shows. I was more the movie database.  We have hundreds of movies.  Pretty painful to go through the majority of them and add a unique tag.
Pity i cant tag multiple files at once. I could just grab all the MA and above and tag them together.

You can also do it the other way round and tag all the films he's allowed to watch, then set the "Allow items with tags" to the used tag, if that's easier.

You could also create a new library and move the rest of the movies that aren't age appropriate for him there. You can restrict which libraries are available for each user too.

Then move them back into a single library later when the time comes.

Your original issue with permissions sounds like a bug. I would open a Github issue and see how the devs respond: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/issues

What country's rating system are you using and what server version are you running? I guessing Australia since several other Aussies here posted about the rating system being wrong for their country.

If you are not running 10.9.7, I'm guessing you're not, there was a change to attempt to resolve this very issue.

Yes i'm Aussie but that shouldn't matter at all for this.
    Actually i am running 10.9.7.

In case you want to actually look at the ratings breakdowns you can find a SS of them here   https://ibb.co/3kscWCL
You will note, PG is lumped in with M/MA/MA15+/MA 15+.  Can you think of a valid reason to include MA15+ with PG?

It does matter so I know which rating system is the issue.  Jellyfin has different organizations for each country's rating system.

My understanding is that the rating groupings are based on suggested age or legal age requirement, not necessarily based on the kind of content in the media.

Also, the Australian rating system is all over the place with overlapping ratings.

If you read through the GitHub issue, you'll see that the devs attempted to make a partial fix in 10.9.7, which may have been a step back for some. And a real fix won't be possible until the next version 10.10 (or later) is released.
