Playback (transcode) on chromecast pauzes consistently

Playback freezes after ~9 minutes, then continues when going back 10 seconds

    Hi,

I've got Jellyfin 10.8.13 running in Unraid. I was casting an episode of the tudors last night, see server_log at 21:39:17.988, remotely through a reverse proxy with DVDSUB subtitles. This resulted in transcoding (see FFMPEG logs). All fine so far, playback started right away. The issue is that after ~9 minutes the playback paused. Clicking the revert 10 seconds button restarted playback (and seems to have resulted in new FFMPEG logs). This kept happening, every time after around 9 minutes after restarting playback. Is this some kind of transcoding timeout issue or something? I've got websockets support enabled in nginx proxy manager if that matters.

I played the next episode without subs (direct) around 22:41 and this played fine. Any ideas what's happening?

When you say Chromecast, do you mean one of the Android TV Chromecasts? Or an older "dumb" Chromecast?

Hi, it's an older chromecast. The gray round one, so no android TV and also not the ultra 4k model.

Honestly, Jellyfins casting implementation is pretty jank. Nothing in your logs indicates a server side issue.

Yeah I have no idea what is going on. The casting worked fine when I used SRT subtitles. Now I'm having issues with the seeker bar not working in the windows app, however. And playback just randomly stopping. I don't know why the jellyfin app are such piles of garbage when the server is so good. Kind of ruins the experience...

Thanks for taking a look though!

Most of our actual apps are pretty good.  Its casting, specifically, that is jank AF.
