l've managed to setup Proxmox + Intel GPU passtrhough to a JellyFin LXC and watch something on my Amazon firestick client.
Coming from Plex I am impressed with the level of maturity of Jellyfin.
Here below, you can find a couple of points that can hopefully be discussed for future development:
- I find the bitrate scaling a bit too much, it starts from 200Mb and goes down to 10Mb to then provide what I believe are the most common options 2Mb,1Mb,720Mb
In my opinion, the user should be allowed to filter out anything higher then X and perhaps have more granularity in the 2Mb and below
- Since I'm transcoding somehow, I was expecting the progress bar to display a different colour for the segment of videos that have already been transcoded/loaded on the client. I'm on Starlink with a VPN connection and 2Mb is often too much... but having the local buffering capability would be amazing.
- I tried briefly the web client and can find easily an option on how to reduce the resolution. This option I'm unable to find on the firestick client. Somehow (in my mind at least) i find it easier to reduce quality than resolution.
- When I pause the video there's something that doesn't free natural to me. I did have some thinking on what this might be, and perhaps these two subpoint are in scope:
1- when pausing, the pause button is missing. It just pauses and then there's a play button. I think changing the play to pause and all the way around might be a good approach.
2- The resume playing keeps the translucent control bar visible for too long. I mean, if I click play I would like to have an option to make that disappearing pretty much immediately.
- I read somewhere that the Intel iGPU can transcode up to 8 simultaneous videos, however my intel_gpu_top shows pretty much 100% usage with a single video. Am I doing anything wrong?
Thank you so much for the effort maintaining this. It is already at a very good state of development and see some interesting margin for improvement.
