My Optiplex 3050 micro served me well but my external hard drive bay died, so i'm planning a new mini ITX build with a lot more internal capacity and this time I want to try running Jellyfin through Docker. My Optiplex server, I used Ubuntu 24.04 and Jellyfin was the only service I was running. For remote access I used tailscale to create a VPN for my families devices outside my home network and this worked perfectly.

How would remote access work when Jellyfin is configured through Docker?

I have very basic understanding of networks and would ideally not like to do any direct port forwarding from my router if i can avoid it. Can I continue using Tailscale with Docker?

I'm also interested in running other services this time around, such as; NextCloud, Sonarr etc

    Thanks in advance.

Running Jellyfin in Docker shouldn't affect how Tailscale works on your machine. Just keep using the same IP address when out and about to connect to the server with Tailscale.

If you set the Jellyfin Docker container to use host networking, it would work exactly the same way. As in you could continue to use tailscale as is.
