    Remote Transcode with Reverse Proxy

I have Jellyfin setup with a reverse proxy.  I run it on Synology NAS and this also runs nginx for my RP.  I have several devices that I use local and remote such as iPads, etc.  I use the server name (Jellyfin.xxx.xxx.com, etc) which works great to log in whether local or remote.  When local I get direct play, but I would like when remote to have Jellyfin automatically transcode rather than trying to play the native file as my upload speed is limited to 10mbps up.  My Synology NAS is able to do this well, but it seems that Jellyfin tries to play the native file each time (I'm assuming with a reverse proxy the server is seeing the request as if it is local?).

Currently I use the iOS/iPadOS Jellyfin app and manually change to a 1080p lower stream which works, and then when local change back to auto.  I find swiftfin unusable remotely however because it tries to direct play and doesn't even transcode.  The server options seem to allow me to force it to always transcode, but this will also force transcode when I try to play locally on my home network as well.

Appreciate any help, I'm sure I'm missing something here!

No option that I know of to adjust this.  I use synology built in reverse proxy which is a web gui for nginx so does not have that option.

Find your jellyfin logs and upload them to https://sourceb.in/. Remove any WAN IPs and usernames.
