I have some inconsistent behavior with the Roku app.  I have an Ultra (4850) that does direct play with no issues, but another Ultra (4802) will play video, but no audio when using direct play.  The video files are all encoded with AAC audio, but when I check the info, it sometimes says they are AC3 or mp3, which makes no sense.  When I disable the force direct play setting, the reason it gives for transocoding is "AudioChannelsNotSupported."  Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Roku's have odd audio support. They support multi channel Dolby and DTS audio, but do NOT support more than 2.0 AAC and OPUS.

Hmm...  Thanks, I think that is what I was missing.  When I try playing a show with 2.0 AAC, Direct Play works fine (audio plays), but more than that, and no-go.

It seems like the new Ultra can handle 5.1 AAC, but not the previous generation.

AAC was borked a couple years ago while the app was still called viv and hasn't been fixed since:

You can try using the Legacy official client (its frozen on the last release before the viv fork took over) or a 3rd party client called JellyRock which was forked from a later version of the legacy official client by me and does things differently than the official client. Both JellyRock and the legacy client don't have this PR and the issues that comes with it.

And just to clarify, some of the new Ultra's do support AAC 5.1 direct play but only by downmixing to stereo on-device, they dont passthrough the 5.1 AAC.
