This has been annoying me for a while now. Each time a plugin gets updated (mostly the Intro Skipper since that one gets regular updates) and I restart the server to apply the new version, it's all black. It appears online, but clients see nothing but a black page after refreshing.
The solution has been simple and I've been doing it a lot - re-run the installer for the version I'm using. That instantly fixes it and I'm on my way with 0 issues, but I'm getting fed up now.

The server is running on Windows 11. Any ideas? It's such a weird one...

Try clearing cache by deleting both Jellyfin folders within C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\

Thanks for writing! I believe I tried this and it didn't work. I tried so many things and nothing helped except re-running the installer. But that's fine, re-running the installer is quick and has had no side effects other than repairing this issue each time.

But my concern is about how to stop this from happening in the first place. I'll try to get a log the next time I get a plugin update and then restart the server. I'm sure it won't be long until there is another intro skipper update.

Which client are you attempting to use? JMP or just a browser? Can you share your server logs?

I don't know the solution to your problem, but as a possible workaround, if re-running the installer works then you should be aware that, since 10.9, in-process restarting was implemented. I'm not smart enough to properly explain it, but rather than a fresh jellyfin.exe getting started, everything running in the existing process gets knocked down and reconstructed. If running the installer again works, my guess would be that it's because jellyfin.exe is getting stopped entirely.

Instead of using the restart button on the dashboard the next time, try hitting the shutdown button instead and starting Jellyfin how you would usually start it (from the Jellyfin (View Console) shortcut/the tray application/Services panel etc. etc.) and seeing if you still get the same issue. e: In my case, I don't use the restart button at all because of this...

All the clients - browser, JMP, Android mobile, Android TV.  I think the Android TV client may have been more...resistant to this, but I can't remember since I got so quick at neutralizing the issue (it became routine to apply the plugin update and then re-run the Jellyfin server installer).

As soon as another update comes in for a plugin I'll capture and share logs!

This is an interesting idea! I can't guarantee it 100%, but I'm at least 80% certain that I've tried both Shutdown and Restart over the past few months of this issue being a thing and the end result was the same.

Okay, this issue APPEARS to have been resolved with update 10.10.1. I know I needed to run my reinstall fix at least once with the 10.10 installer, but today I got an update for the Intro Skipper plugin and there was no problems after shutdown/start. There was also another plugin update, the skin manager, and that went fine too.

I'll report back if this ever occurs again.

I have the same problem and I suspect it's the Intro Skipper plugin causing it. Not sure how to remove it. i can still use the Jellyfin Tizen app but the android and web applications only give me a blank screen.

I have Jellyfin installed on my Synology box thru the SynoCommunity installer. I can't just run the installer again.

Clear your browser and app cache?

Unfortunately, no help. I cleared cookies on my browser and my app. I can log into the server and the screensaver still works. Just a blank screen when I move the mouse to try and use it. Just staring at stills from all my media til I can get this fixed.

I know where most all the files are located if you think you have a lead on what might be the issue. Here's video of it going to screen saver and me mousing over the window to stop it.
