    Hi All,

This is all new to me. I have recently installed Jellyfin Server onto an old laptop. intel core i7, 8GB RAM, 500Gb HDD. I am using Linux Mint 22.3. Installed Jellyfin 10.11.11 using Mint built in Software Manager. Accepted all default settings during install. Everything works so well. Jellyfin found my movie files, downloaded associated metadata and added to "My Media". All very nice. I can play the movies on the Jellyfin server screen. So far so good.

Now I would like to cast the video to my TV using Chromecast. Not so successful. When I click on "Cast to Device" icon in the top right, a drop down menu displays my Chromecast device. I then select the device. On the TV, a screen with the Jellyfin logo is displayed, saying "Ready to Cast" (see image below). After that nothing happens. The movie won't play on the TV or on the server screen.

Jellyfin is running on Brave browser 1.93.129. The Brave browser menu has a "Save and Share" option on the drop down menu from where I can also cast to my TV. Selecting this option brings up the same screen as shown in the image below. The result is the same. The movie won't play on the TV or on the server screen.

As soon as I stop casting I can play the movie on the server screen.

The browser will cast fine if I close Jellyfin and open something like YouTube. The YouTube video casts fine to the TV.

I would like to just use the Jellyfin server to manage, play and cast my videos without using a second device running a Jellyfin client or the browser.

Am I missing a plugin or a setting? Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Can you share your server logs via pastebin? And have you tried a different browser?

    Hi DreadPirate,
Thank you for looking at my post and giving it some thought. Yes, I have tried Firefox and Chrome browser, ie. Jellyfin server launches in these browsers. I get the same result. I also tried on an newer TV with built in casting but no luck.

It is working now, but I haven't solved my posted problem. I bought an Amazon Fire TV Stick and plugged that into my TV instead of the Google Chromecast. I searched for, downloaded and installed the Jellyfin app from within the Fire Stick app store. I think it is a version of the Jellyfin Desktop. Anyway, once the app installed, it found my server and plays my movies on the TV. It is as if I was watching the server screen. I have full navigation of Jellyfin using the Fire Stick remote. I couldn't be happier. There was nothing I had to do with server settings or plugins.

The Fire Stick also allowed me to consolidate all my streaming platforms into the one device.

So I am going to say the problem is solved. Thanks again.

    Bill.
