I am trying to make the switch over from plex as i love the idea of jellyfin! Most of the things seem to work okay, however, 4k content (HDR in particular) doesn't direct play and transcodes when plex does not (it direct plays). This also effects the HDR as it is washed out due to it not displaying in HDR.

If it matters, i'm running these both on unraid.

The video file in question has the following details.

    Video
    Title: 4K HEVC HDR
    Codec: HEVC
    AVC: No
    Profile: Main 10
    Level: 180
    Resolution: 3840x1600
    Aspect ratio: 2.40:1
    Anamorphic: No
    Interlaced: No
    Framerate: 59.940063
    Bitrate: 32323 kbps
    Bit depth: 10 bit
    Video range: HDR
    Video range type: DOVIWithHDR10
DV title: DV Profile 8.1 (HDR10)
    DV version major: 1
    DV version minor: 0
    DV profile: 8
    DV level: 8
    DV rpu preset flag: 1
    DV el preset flag: 0
    DV bl preset flag: 1
DV bl signal compatibility id: 1
    Color space: bt2020nc
    Color transfer: smpte2084
    Color primaries: bt2020
    Pixel format: yuv420p10le
    Ref frames: 1

Also looks like it isn't playing the atmos content via my sonos arc either. Again this works fine in plex, just trying to figure out whats going on.

Hey there, since your video is being transcoded, in order to know the reason we need the ffmpeg log; you can find it in your admin dashboard under "Logs". Also, how are you hosting Jellyfin? Docker, I pressume? It would also help to know what the server specs are.

Unraid being a proprietary OS with some open source components, I'm not sure what the compatibility is with JF, but under a docker container, it's likely to work fine I suppose, and in that case I would take a look at the hardware acceleration section of the documentation and see if I had setup everything properly. But without knowing your server specs, I can't really do more than speculate.
    Server specs => OS: Debian 12 | GPU: Arc A380 | CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X | 64GB RAM | 56TB

    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380

I don't want it transcode, thats part of the issue it won't direct play, when i know the device (shield pro) supports it and it direct plays fine with Plex. :-) but i am playing it on a shield pro.

For that specific file, the problem is most likely related to profile levels. Although the shield can play it, the checks are failing, causing Jellyfin on Android TV to assume your device can't handle it and triggering a transcode. You can find more details in this issue.

Do you have subtitles enabled? Depending on the kind of subtitle, that may trigger a transcode to burn in the subs.

Could you check why that file is transcoding? I'm not sure how it shows up in the logs, but if you play the file and go to your dashboard, clicking the info icon for the playing media should provide the reason.

That is almost an exact screenshot of what i'm seeing, the same message you are showing there.
