    Hi guys

I have a lot of duplicated artist entries like "the artist" and "the_artist" in my music library.

As this problem is only on artist having spaces within their names, i'm pretty sure this is because of my folder and file-structure. I do not have any spaces in my folder- and filenames.
In the folderstructure every space is an underscore, but the id3 tags are with spaces, not underscores.
So finally "the_artist" is from file or foldernames, and "the artist" is from id3tag.

    Filename:
    music/the_artist/the_artist-the_album/the_artist-the_song.mp3

    Tags
    Artist: the artist
    Album: the album
    Title: the song

Is there a way to avoid those duplicates without renaming files and folders?

Hmm, now the duplicated entries are gone.
No idea what happened. Maybe it takes some time after a library scan?

But there still is a mix between "the artist" and "the_artist" and i can't see a pattern yet.

I'll keep an eye on it.

I'm assuming the first library scan post upgrade we're directing users to run is still in progress?  How long it takes depends on how fast your storage is and how big your library is.  For me, it did A LOT of clean up and fixed a bunch of albums that wouldn't "attach" to an artist, even though the metadata field had the correct artist.

Sadly it's not the not finished "first library scan".

The problem still existed for some artist, so i decided to do a complete re-scan using the "Replace all metadata" option.
This didn't solve the problem, but now it looks like there is a pattern.

Every "doubled" artist has it's own folder containing an artist.nfo (where the name of the artist is written like the foldername), while not doubled artists have no artist.nfo, usually because they're just one of many artist on a collection/sampler.

So it really looks like a problem of my folder structure, but renaming will be a big effort.
As i did the re-scan with activated "Metadata downloaders (Music Artists)" which may causes the issue, i have to give it a retry without metadata downloaders for music artist.
But then i will loose many cool infos related to the artist.
Another test maybe could be to mass-edit the artist.nfo an replace all "_" with spaces on "artist/title" in the xml structure. But this maybe will never be updated in the database and also may be overwritten after next library scan.

First let me say v12 is such a major improvement in many regards - it is a joy to use and I am excited about my media library management software again.

Ran into a few issues with artists, of which some go back to improper metadata on my part. Cleaning that and giving Jellyfin some time resolved many issues.

Some artists still showed up twice, with identical name, image and albums. Maybe I was too impatient but what worked for me was moving the artist folder out of the library folder, wait for Jellyfin to remove the artist and move the folder back. Wait some more and the artist only showed up once.

Although in one case even that did not fix the double artist entry and I am still unsure why the artist shows up twice with the same album. The theaudiodb artist links go to the same page.

Edit: Patience is a virtue - back to single artist entry, so all good here.

    Finally found https://forum.jellyfin.org/t-music-libra...2#pid73592
which confirms that my problem is the folder structure and also includes a possible solution by editing the artist.nfo manually.
