    Hey all.

My server had some hard drive issues recently and I had to restore it. I couldn't find a ton of info on migrating the server but I did back up my Jellyfin data in /etc/, /var/cache, and /var/lib. I tried to follow TheDreadPirate's instructions here, but I ran into some issues. After installing Jellyfin on a fresh install of Ubuntu and copying over /etc/ and /var/lib files I was getting an error. I removed what I could, reinstalled Jellyfin, and when I tried to start a new server it showed my original server. It had my old paths saved and I deleted them and added the new, correct path. Everything works but now almost everything shows as a duplicate. When checking out the media info for items that show dupes, it shows the previous path and the new one.

All old paths have been removed from Dashboard>Libraries but I can't get rid of dupes after rescanning multiple times. I'm wondering if deleting all old library folders and creating new ones could solve it. I don't have a crazy amount of media so this is doable, but I wanted to see if anybody had a better idea first.

I attached a couple of images. It seems that new files added after migrating don't have the duplicate issue happening. Everything that was on the server before are affected.

Which scan type did you run? A simple "new and update files" scan? Try a "replace all metadata" scan.

I've tried both but still have Jellyfin showing there's duplicates of them all.

Viewing the metadata for files shows only the correct path, but looking at media info for everything still shows the former path.

For whatever reason sometimes old metadata is "sticky" and the only way I've gotten it to change is to remove the media from the library folder, scan to remove the entry, then move the media back into the library and scan to add them back. Or removing the library entirely. Either way works.

I did try moving all movie files out to another folder, scanning the empty library then readd them yesterday but now they're duped again.

I'll try removing the original libraries completely and creating new ones to see if that works.

When you delete the libraries, before creating the new ones, go into /var/lib/jellyfin/root/default/ and delete the folders associated with the library to make sure all the configs are purged.

Alrighty. Issue seems to be fixed.

I went through and moved all files out of their folders (Movies, Shows, etc) then rescanned everything.
Deleted each library from Jellyfin and doing so was removing all their respective folders in /var/lib/jellyfin/root/default.
Created new folders, moved everything into their folders, then added them as new libraries in Jellyfin.

    Thanks for the help!

    Hi there,
I have the exact same problem - well almost...
Moved to new Server, all fine initially but after a day, all items have false duplicates (see screenshots).
Both items have the exact same file and path - of course there is only one such file.
This only applies to items that have been on the old server already - newly added files are fine and do not show 2x.

Is there any newer/better/other way to fix this besides moving all items in and out and having all libs re-scanned?

There is obviously a glitch in the database and I guess that is where the solution should be found?

    Cheers
    ~R.
