    Hi all,

New to Jellyfin since a few months. Loving it but trying to work out the kinks here and there.
And for the life of me I cannot find the option to delete a file (only) from my libraries and playlists.
All research and troubleshooting lead me to believe it should be in the drop down menu, but it isnt there.

Jellyfin Client -> Libraries -> Open drop down menu from 3 dots on a video file

An option such as "Delete from playlist" isn't available at all. Only "Delete" which would also remove it from my HDD.
I have this problem on the Web UI and the windows client. (haven't tried any other)
You can surely understand that without it I have no control over my playlists whatsoever.

    Specs:
    Jellyfin server 10.9.8
    Docker
Synology DS415+ (DSM 7.1.1) RAM upgraded
    Nvidia Shield TV pro

Any help would be appreciated. I didn't include any logs because there is no input since it's missing all together, but if needed feel free to tell me and I'll include them.

    Cheers, Ken

You state you have access to the "Delete" option, but looks like you want a button to delete from a playlist only.

Deleting an item from a playlist should only delete it from the playlist. I would test it out myself by uploading a junk video file, adding it to a playlist, then deleting it and checking if it's still present on the file system.

I already tried it out and it deletes it from my NAS. So the file was completely gone.

Could this have something to do with permissions?

You have to put a .ignore file in the folder that you want to exclude from your library. There is no option to remove an item from the library without deleting it.

I created a test library with duplicates of a couple movies and created a test playlist.  I ensured that the volume in docker was R/W and that on the file system it had R/W permissions.  The user that the container runs as is the same UID as the bare metal Jellyfin instance.  100% has permissions to delete files if I so choose.

I checked the logs and there are no entries for any failures to delete files.

But this only applies to actual playlists. Not libraries. If you want to exclude items from your library, do what @theguymadmax said.

Or just not put it in the library folder.

Thank you all for your time! The .ignore works. But I thought it would be handy to adjust it on the fly while browsing through my libraries.
