Player error encountered. will re-try... Too many errors. Giving up.

Reviewing the logs, there is no direct play log on server or transcoding. Dashboard shows the media is direct playing. "The source file is entirely compatible with this client and the session is receiving the file without modifications."

I'm able to direct play it without issue through web browser on my laptop and Jellyfin app on iPhone. Logs for direct play properly show when viewing through either of these.

These videos all played previous to removal of libVLC player option in playback, now I have no player options anymore. I previously had issues with the default player and reconfigured to use vlc instead.

I selected Downmix to stereo and they all play now. I'm guessing the other player automatically downmixed for compatibility? I'd like to play 5.1 when supported instead of always dowmixiing. Some of my 5.1 doesn't play either, but works with downmix even though I have 5.1 and other 5.1 plays properly.

I noticed this from reviewing some a few different audio types.

eac3 5.1 plays direct
ac3 5.1 down mixes to DD 2.0 automatically
eac3 7.1 fails to play - works if down mix stereo set
dts 5.1 fails to play - works if down mix stereo set

Sorry that wasn't correct. The AC3 was actually down mixing the truehd 7.1 audio to stereo. If I select the ac3 5.1 audio track it properly direct plays.

Looking at various github threads, the workaround is to set the audio output to downmix until this issue is resolved.

I was able to fix it by doing the steps below. DD/DD+ now properly plays 5.1, unsupported audio now properly down mixes to Stereo. All video and audio types properly play without crashing.

Set Jellyfin
Settings > Playback > Advanced > Bitsream Dolby Digital Audio (Enable)

Set Fire Stick
Settings > Display & Sounds > Audio > Surround Sound > Dolby Digital (Enable)

Set TV - This will depend on your TV and sound system. But you need to configure your Audio out to use Dolby Digital. I have a Vizio TV with a Sonos Playbar and it uses Optical.
Settings > Audio > Digital Audio Out > Dolby D (Enable)
