The version of Jellyfin you are running = 10.8.13
Your installation method and platform Linux LSIO Docker on Ubuntu 22.04.3

Access is via web browser client or Jellyfin Media Player on Windows.

In ascending order when sorted on Release Date, the first line (in poster card view which shows the release date) goes 1984, 1996, 2022, 2023, 1986, 2018, 2017, 2022-present, 1994, 2005

The same sequence is seen in other accounts and is seen in a clean browser profile.

The Movies sort order with Release Date works as expected with no anomalies.

After spinning up another Jellyfin instance, as expected the same issue does not occur so this looks as if there is "corruption" somewhere.

Any suggestions to diagnose this further and hopefully resolve without starting from scratch (and losing users/watch history, and having to scan everything again etc.) would be welcomed.

Not sure why, but imgur thinks that it is "mature" https://imgur.com/a/4AvaLyc
That is the end of the third page of TV shows sorted by release date, and can be seen they go all over the place...

ok, so /me is an idiot, and hadn't tried to right click on each show to refresh metadata, which has cleared it up.

in my defence I had previously run a refresh metadata at the library level, but I'll know for next time (-:
