Subtitles Cause Error if 4k+HDR. 4k SDR fine

Previously I was able to play any 4k HDR videos in my library with subtitles.  Now when I play any such file (4k HDR files) and enable subtitles I get an immediate error on the roku app saying "There was an error playing this title" with an "ok" button. Pressing ok takes you back to the info screen for the episode or movie.  If I don't enable subtitles I am able to play the file without issue.

This error does not happen if I enable subtitles on 4k SDR files.

I'm currently using 10.8.13 on an unraid nas and the client I mainly use is a roku ultra. I believe this error might have began happening 2 versions ago but it's taken me until this week to notice the pattern of what kind of files were causing a playback error when I tried to enable subtitles.

Additionally if I use firefox or any other browser on my computer to play the same 4k HDR files, I am able to enable subtitles without issue. The same goes for if I use the desktop jellyfin app, that works fine with subtitles on 4k HDR.

Is this an issue with the roku app or is it likely something with jellyfin?

I am bumping this thread because I am experiencing the same issue on every client I have (browser, Roku Ultra, Onn 4k Pro). When I try to play a 4k HDR file with subtitles the transcode fails and on the browser it states "Playback failed due to a fatal player error." The same happens on my roku and ATV clients. When I turn off subtitles then the media plays fine with transcoding.

This occurs with Intel QSV and VAAPI as my hardware encoders. I have a i5-12600k as my cpu on unraid and Jellyfin is running on the linuxserver docker image.

    Here is my logs: https://pastebin.com/hR8nvAUB

    Thanks for the help!

Did you install Linuxserver's openCL docker mod?

    https://github.com/linuxserver/docker-mo...encl-intel

    Code:
    DOCKER_MODS=linuxserver/mods:jellyfin-opencl-intel
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
    Storage

I do have them installed. I was able to fix this but unchecking "Allow Subtitle Extraction on the fly" in the transcode menu. Looks like my system was struggling to keep up with subtitles on the fly.

You can try using the subtitle extract plugin, then running the job, to pre-extract plugins. But that only runs on text based subs, IIRC.
