VAAPI for Skylake processors. Does it work now?

    It does!
    I tried both on Barbie (4k HEVC 26mbps to 1080P 20mbps) and on Continuavano a chiamarlo Trinità (1080P H264 15mbps to 10mbps)
    Thank you a lot!

Edit: I tried with a YouTube vp9 video from 4k 15mbps to anything below, but it doesn't work unfortunately

Hmmmm. The Intel Quicksync wiki says it should support some VP9 decoding on the GPU. Go ahead and uncheck VP9, though. Unchecking it just means it will decode the video on the CPU.

Perfect, now it kinda works... The poor 6006u is really struggling with that though... Guess I'll have to look for a used workstation (like an HP ProDesk such as the one used by HardwareHaven) with a better CPU instead of using a headless laptop with external HDDs (photo attached lol). Can I ask you for some guidelines, maybe in PMs or via email?

In this thread is preferable so we can share knowledge.

I'd need to know your budget to give you a better recommendation. But it really doesn't require a lot to run Jellyfin if you choose the right hardware.

A good budget option are Intel N100 mini PCs, which are cheap and widely available. They are super low power but still surprisingly capable for running Jellyfin.

If you want more capable setup, let me know what your budget is and I can provide more suggestions.

Your setup actually looks really good too for my needs, but it's way out of budget.
My current setup is an HP 250 G6:
    • i3-6006u
    • 8Gb ddr4
    • 1,6TB of random HDDs connected to the USB ports (yikes 😬)
    • Gigabit Ethernet
    It currently is
    • A Truenas scale server
    • A jellyfin server - Struggling with transcoding
    • A basic smb Nas
    • A Minecraft server for me and my family (max 10 people at once on a plain paper vanilla world, but planning on using some modpacks in the future after the upgrade) - Struggling with anything
    • A navidrome server
    • An immich server
I'd like to be able to to everything I'm currently doing as well as self hosting Mediacms, DisqueTV, paperless ngx and Stirling PDF

My budget is 200€ at most, disks excluded.
I've seen many HP ProDesks 600 and 800 series; Lenovo p520s and lastly dell optiplexes, but they are often too expensive or very old

    What do you suggest?

If your current setup was a desktop, I'd say just install an Intel Arc GPU.

Without the Minecraft server, your budget might be ok. But running a Minecraft server, even for 10 people, does require a pretty fast CPU.

You may need to take some of your disk budget and put it towards your server budget or something. A surplus office PC with an 8th Gen or newer Intel CPU, preferably a 4+ core model, with 32GB of RAM should meet your needs. Just make sure the case it is in is big enough for the drives you want to add.
