Hello. I have tested several videos and I am fairly certain that trickplay images stop working at the 16:20 mark (16 minutes and 20 seconds). They load and function correctly until that point, regardless of the content. I also checked the same videos on the LG TV app, where trickplay works fine throughout. I suspect this is a bug.

I have my Roku open in a window right now and it's showing trickplay images well past 16:20, so this is not a universal bug.

What image tile size are you using?

What Roku device are you using?

Are you using the 1 image or 5 image trickplay display?

Have you tried the steps outlined in this post on GitHub to try a 5x5 tile size? https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-roku/issues/14
    🤘 Enjoy

Thank you very much for your help. Following your instructions, the issue has been resolved (I reduced the images from the default 10x10 to 5x5 grids).

One question: for compatibility with less powerful Roku devices, would it be advisable to reduce the grids even further? (e.g., 3x3).

To document this for others, here are my setup specs: Roku Ultra 4802X (Software version 15.1) running Jellyfin channel version 3.1.9. Note: 10x10 grids fail on both '1' and '5' images trickplay display settings.

@alewian your roku ultra is NOT a legacy device. It was released in 2021 and has 2GB ram which is currently the most any roku device can have. I'm not sure what your exact problem is regarding trickplay images and the official Roku client but I know for a fact its not because of your device. https://developer.roku.com/docs/specs/hardware.md
    Quote:Roku Ultra LT Benjamin-W 4800X ARM Cortex A55 OpenGL ES 2.0 2 GB 1080p/60fps 4K60fps, HDR HDR10/10+, HLG, and DolbyVision 2021
Roku Ultra Benjamin 4800X ARM Cortex A55 OpenGL ES 2.0 2 GB 1080p/60fps 4K60fps, HDR HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HLG 2021

The pinned trickplay issue is misleading at best:

    Quote:What are trickplay tiles?
Trickplay images are saved as a large image made up of a grid of trickplay images. We call these tiles. By default, these tiles are are 10 images wide by 10 images tall.

    Why does this impact Roku?
These default settings can result in trickplay tile images that are too big for some Roku models to handle.

Can't you program it to work with the larger images?
No. There is no amount of code we can do to "just make it work." The Roku device itself literally cannot process images that size.

    So what can I do?
The only option is to reduce the tile size in the admin panel and regenerate your trickplay images. This way the tile images are smaller and older devices can use them.

Based on all my testing for JellyRock, this pinned problem ONLY affects devices with 512MB of ram and yes you absolutely can program these low ram devices to work with the default trickplay images that come from the server in size 10x10 Upside-down-face . The trick is to resize the image before rendering it. This reduces quality but reduces the image size so low ram devices can still use the trickplay feature with the default 10x10 server tiles. See https://github.com/jellyrock/jellyrock/pull/301

In summary, you should be able to use the default 10x10 tile size for trickplay images and render them on your roku ultra using the official roku client. Since you cant, I would assume thats a bug. Its definitely not because of your device. The official client has TWO different ways of rendering trickplay images also which i don't understand vs JellyRock only having the one custom 5 image implementation. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Awesome! Glad it worked for you.

I don't think 3x3 is needed. My Roku TV is old as dirt and 5x5 was the magic number to get it working 🤘

@cewert I understand your explanation and I agree with it. I’m the first one surprised that my Roku Ultra can’t properly handle the trickplay images. But the reality is that in the official channel they wouldn’t load from minute 16:20 onwards (neither with the 1-image setting nor with the 5-image setting). I also tried with JellyRock without success (only the first images or maybe the last ones would load). Now, with the 5x5 grid, they work well on both channels. Thank you very much for your support.
