Video not playing on Apple TV 4k

Video from movies and TV shows will not play on Apple TV 4k, but will on iPhone and laptop

Here is the thing that's weird,
I can play shows and movies on my iPhone or tablet or laptop without an issue.

It's just the apple4k box that is giving me an issue

I looked in the settings of the app and I do not see a way to disable transcoding per user, only all or nothing

I'm not familiar with what options are in the Apple 4k version of Jellyfin Player, but do you have an option to change what player you use?
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
    Storage

The same issues occur on the apple 4ktv.

I am thinking this is a bug with the app itself.

The issue that occurs with or without transcoding on is most content will allow me to click on the title, then when it is actually playing all I am getting is a black screen for video. I can hear the audio as if it was playing normally.

Do any developers watch this forum? I really want to get their eyes on this. I'd love to be made a fool if It's something about my setup, but I think it is application wide.

So I can use the jellyfin ipad app and iPhone app without issue

I'm not talking about iPhone vs iPad vs Apple TV.  In the Android TV version of the Jellyfin app there is a setting to change the player that Jellyfin uses.  Something like "web player, exo player, external player (VLC)".  I was asking if the Apple TV version had something similar and what happens when you change with internal player Jellyfin uses.

    Ah, I see.

There is no way that I am familiar with to change the video player used

I am starting to think it is related to this https://github.com/jellyfin/Swiftfin/issues/780 or this https://github.com/jellyfin/Swiftfin/issues/496

Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

I have someone on my server trying to connect with Swiftfin, same problems. Black screen when playing any video. Dashboard/logs show it's playing direct, not transcoding, can't find anything in the logs that looks like an error, and videos work for all my other users on Kodi, Roku, Android, etc. I've heard "force direct play" is worth enabling in Swiftfin, also advised her to try changing video player in the options, and failing that to try Infuse.

I'll follow up if something works, otherwise would love some input.

Enabling "Force direct play" in the app settings fixed the black screen issue for me
