I copied several home videos to Jellyfin's Movies library folder, but half of them are not showing up.  These include titles such as "Christmas 2010", "Jack's Diary", etc.  I found no information in the documentation on how to handle home videos so I'm just guessing on how to integrate them into the library system.  I'm guessing that Jellyfin wants all titles in the form "Title (date)", but these are not commercial films.  What am I doing wrong and how to accommodate these media types?

The Movies library type assumes actual movies. It is trying to do a metadata data lookup and, obviously, not finding a match.

Try the mixed library type or music videos library type. I think those library types will just show the file name if the metadata lookup fails.

actually the correct content type is 'Photos' for this use, it will be renamed in 10.9

just add a library and make it's type Photos, leave the defaults as it will grab keyframes for thumbs and everything looks good

This unfortunately is not usable. People just want to open an item and then click Next, and see all their photos and home videos one by one.

    But in the Photos library:
    - when you open a photo, and you go next and next and next, it never includes videos in the slideshow.
    - you don't know that you've skipped videos in your slideshow.
    - you can't group the Photos library by file type, so you have to fish for the videos among the photos.
    - videos have a narrow non-landscape thumbnail and are hard to see (why the hell?).
    - When you play a video you can't move to the next one like you can with photos. It takes 5 or 6 clicks to play the next video.

Not sure why you've engineered yourselves into such a complex corner instead of just playing all home videos and photos in your folder(s) one by one.
Do you expect us to split our vacation photos in folders by type? Not gonna happen.
A 3 sec video and a photo are the same thing.

I'm in the process of cleaning up my movie collection, and as such, decided it was time to move home videos out of the main movies folder. When in that folder, I was able to see them in my main movie library, but once I moved them to their own folder and tried to create a new library for it, they just don't show up at all.

I tried using the photos type as suggested here, when that failed I tried mixed, that failed too, so I tried movies as they had been showing in the movie category previously, that also failed. So I gave up and moved them back to the main movie folder thinking they'd show back up in the main movie library, but that also failed!

So now I can't find any way to see these files through Jellyfin at all.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Use the Music Videos library. It does not attempt to retrieve metadata and will just show the folders as long as Jellyfin has permission to read it.

Then Jellyfin may not have permissions to read them.

What OS is the server running?
